Biography

Dr. Raveche completed her B.A. in chemistry from B.A in chemistry from Seton Hill College, Greensburg, PA and Ph.D in Immunogenetics from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. She is associated with American Society of Hematology, American Assoc of Immunologists The Raveche lab focuses on a subset of B-lymphocytes, B-1 cells, that can regulation of the immune response via IL-10. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) involves clonal expansion of B-1 cells and we focuses on molecular events that led to malignant clonal expansion, including early alterations that predispose to the development of CLL, namely the reduction in the microRNA, miR15a/16. We also employ a mouse model, the NZB strain, which due to mutation in the mir15a/16 loci has reduced miR15a/16 and B-1 clonal expansion. By employing microRNA miR15a/16 delivery or activation of the Dlue2 promoter regulating miR15a/16 expression, we hope to develop therapies. Finally, we are correcting the mutation in NZB derived embryonic stem cells and iPS cells to study the effect on B malignant expansion. The overall goal is to understand the molecular changes, which lead to the malignant expansion of the B-1 cells and develop agents to block this transformation.
